IELTS in Germany – August 2009 (Academic Module)

IELTS in Germany was described by E, whose excellent memory made it possible for us to see these topics and questions. At the same time I received an email from A from Norway, and apparently they had the same exam.

Listening test

Section 1: A conversation between a customer and and an insurance company employee about an application form.
Questions: Fill in the gaps.

Section 2: A conversation between a uni student and her teacher about a semester project.
Questions: Fill in the gaps.

Section 3: A lecture about happiness and what affects it.
Questions: Multiple choice, fill in the gaps.

Section 4: An advertisement for a Canoeing company.
Questions: Multiple choice, fill in the gaps.

Reading test

Passage 1: A text about happiness psychology and causes (not the same as in the listening section)
Questions: Matching headings, matching statements.

Passage 2: A passage about fingerprints and their importance for crime solving and art.
Questions: Matching statements, True/False/Not given, Multiple choice.

Passage 3: A passage about the relationship between flat foot and diseases.
Questions: Summary completion, Multiple choice.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (report)
Describe a line graph about the number of immigrants coming to Canada, USA and Australia from 1990 to 2001.

Writing task 2 (essay)
Advertisements have a negative effect on children. Should they therefore be banned? Discuss, what is your opinion?

Speaking test

Interview
– What’s your full name?
– Where are you from?
– Describe the city you live in.
– What do you like the most about the place?
– Do you have many visitors coming to your house?
– What do you do before someone comes to visit you?

Cue card
Describe a situation of success in your life, you should say:
– when was it,
– why you did it
– why you think it was successful

Discussion
– Does success depend on other people?
– Do you think our view of what success is has changed recently?
– How has your viewpoint on success changed?
