IELTS Test in Malaysia – March 2011 (Academic Module)

The following update was sent by our kind friend H who took his IELTS exam in Malaysia. Unfortunately, H didn’t remember the Listening or the Reading topics, but did a great job with Writing and Speaking:

Writing Test

Writing Task 1 (a report)

We were given a line graph showing the number of CDs that were purchased at three different locations: in a supermarket, in a music store and on the internet. The task was to write a report that describes the trends of CD purchases based on the graph provided.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Some people think that the role of women in the military or police forces is very relevant and becoming more significant. Others argue the opposite. Do you agree or disagree? What is your opinion?

IELTS test in India and Saudi Arabia – March 2011 (General Training)

The IELTS exams in Saudi Arabia and India seems to be the same, according to our friends S and P. Here is what they collectively remembered:

Listening test

Section 1. A conversation about a hotel reservation and the existing facilities at the hotel.

Section 2. Location map of an art institute and student’s facilities, such as a studio, a laundry area and a concert hall.
Questions: map labeling.

Section 3. Monkeys (Chimpanzees) behavior, their eating habits and food preferences.
Questions: multiple choice.

Section 4. Various types of pumps for irrigation including their technical specifications, advantages and disadvantages.

Reading test

Passage 1. A travel agency brochure with information about London and its landmarks.

Passage 2. About insurance claims for organizations and how to claim insurance in a case of people using their private vehicles.

Passage 3. A big passage about a small endangered bird in Australia. How they survive and take care of their offsprings.
Questions: True / False / Not Given, filling in blanks, short-answer questions.

Passage 4. About a research on rabbits.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You won a competition and received a vacation for two as a prize. Write a letter to invite a friend to go with you. In the letter

– tell about the competition you won,
– specify what kind of vacation it is,
– explain why you want your friend to be there.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Nowadays traffic in major cities is worsening. What problems does it create? How can we help solve these problems as individuals?
