IELTS test in Australia – June 2011 (Academic Module)

Below are the topics and questions shared by our kind friend J after his IELTS exam in Australia. The only sections J remembered were Writing and Speaking.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given a production diagram of canned fruits. It was showing the whole process from picking up fruits to the distribution of final product.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

News is a source of knowledge about the world. How much can we trust the journalists? What are the qualities a good journalist should have?

Speaking test

Interview

– Talk about the weather.
– Compare the weather in Australia and your country of origin.
– What is the importance of flowers in your country?
– Do they have some special meaning in your country?
– Do you know any particular flower that is important?
– What do public holidays mean to you?
– How important to you to have holidays from time to time?

Cue Card

Described a place near water ( lake or river) that you have visited recently. Please say

– Where is it located
– Who did you go with?
– What did you do there?
– What did you like or dislike about this place?

Discussion

– What do you think about the global warming?
– Do you like to travel by ships?
– Compare traveling by ships/boats in the past and nowadays.
– How does the global warming affect the oceans?

IELTS Speaking test in Vietnam – June 2011

The Speaking questions below were shared by our kind friend J, who took his IELTS exam in Vietnam:

Interview

– Can you tell me your full name?
– Please describe your apartment.
– What do you like about it?
– Is there anything you would like to change in the apartment?
– Is color important when you buy things? Why?
– Do you like dark or light colors? Why?
– How important were colors to you when you were a child?
– Do you like your name?
– Have you ever wanted to change your name?
– Who is the one that usually names a child in your country?
– Tell me about the tradition of giving names in your country.

Cue Card

Talk about a character that you admire from your childhood. Please say

– Who was he/she?
– What was he/she like?
– What did he/she do?
– Explain why you admire this character.

Discussion

– What types of characters do adults usually admire these days? Why?
– Why do people still admire the character even if they know it’s not real?
– What are the characteristics of an actor that is widely admired?
– How much can a character from a movie affect our real life? Why?
