Our friends LE and MT remembered the following Writing and Speaking questions from their recent IELTS exams in Ghana:

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You have been looking for a job and have come across a job advertisement for a part-time position. Write a letter to the employer. In your letter

– explain why you need the job
– describe your skills and qualifications
– say what days you are available

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Nowadays people take photographs and record videos of their social activities. Why are they doing this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this activity?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– What is your full name?
– Where are you from?
– Do you work or study?
– Are you interested in science?
– Do you have a favorite science subject?
– Did you learn science in school?
– Do you think science lessons are important?
– Do you know of any technology that is helpful in daily life?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Talk about a journey you went on. You should say

– where you went
– why you went there
– who went there with you

and explain whether or not you enjoyed this journey and why.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– How do people in your country feel about driverless vehicles?
– Do you think that driverless vehicles could lead to a reduction in car ownership?
– Would that have a positive or a negative effect on people?
– What are the advantages of driverless vehicles?
– How do you think driverless vehicles can improve road safety?
– In what ways can driverless cars reduce traffic congestion in urban areas?
– Are there disadvantages to driverless vehicles?
– Could employment opportunities in transportation be affected by driverless vehicles? In what way?
