Section 4. A lecture about relationships of transport and business from 1940s to 1990s.

Reading test

Passage 1. Don’t remember.

Passage 3. About the use of magnets to treat diseases.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given a pie chart showing the consumption of bottled water in 1991 in different regions of the word, and a bar graph showing the increase in consumption of bottled water in certain areas between 1991 and 2001.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

In many countries, young people are moving from rural areas to cities to work or study. Why is this happening? What are advantages or disadvantages of this trend?

We were given three maps illustrating changes of the Stapleford village, in two centuries, from 1800 to 2000. Maps showed farm lands, road to London and York, railway track to Leeds, a factory, motorway, residential area and a business area.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some companies are closing their offices one day per week to save energy (gas, electricity). What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
