Update from a General IELTS exam, Canada

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a letter)

Imagine you are going to an English speaking country to live. Write a letter to a rental agency. In your letter say
– what type of a house you need.
– what the house size should be
– in what area should it be located

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Express your opinion about how modernism can affect our health. What can the government do to overcome such circumstances? Discuss.

Speaking test

Interview
– What is your name?
(Asked for my passport to confirm my identity)
– Tell me about your work.

Cue Card

What is your opinion about working in shifts? Give examples (doctors, hotel staff, etc).

Discussion
Different jobs demand shift work, in my opinion should the choice be given to the candidate to work in shifts or not?

Passage 1. Co-education and Single-gender education.
Passage 2. Penology.
Passage 3. Telepathy.

We had a line graph about the number of inquiries received by tourist receptionist (by phone, by email/mail and in person) from January to June 2004.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)
As the rich people grow richer, the poor people are getting poorer. What problems can arise from this situation and how can we cope with them?

– Are you working or studying?
– What do you like the most about your job?
– What kinds of weather do you like most and why?
– Why are people getting married older nowadays compared to the past? Why do you think our grandparents were getting married young?
