IELTS test in Jordan and Saudi Arabia – January 2013 (General Training)

Thanks to IELTS test takers T and M we can share this update from the recent exams in Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Section 1. A dialogue between a woman new to the town who was asking a librarian about the events and services provided by the library.

Section 2. A conversation between a student and her instructor regarding their project on the study of music in restaurants.

Section 3. A college principal was giving instructions to the students about short courses offered at the college such as yoga and photography, and who to contact for information.

Section 4. About a company Glastons, its age and percentage of growth in different areas of service.

Reading test

Passage 1. A one-page description of library activities and the manner they work with the clients, what they wear, their badges, and their code of conduct.
Questions: True/False/Not Given.

Passage 2. A brochure explaining to the temporary staff their legal rights, leaves, wages and working hours, which are different from company employees.
Questions: filling in blanks.

Passage 3. A passage about job groups where people who are looking for jobs form groups to share their experience and build confidence.

Passage 4. An article about the Badain Jaran Desert Dunes in Alashan of north China’s Inner Mongolia.
Questions: filling in blanks, matching headings to paragraphs.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You’ve recently found an object and you think that it might be of some historical value. Write a letter to the director of the museum asking for some information on the object.

– Give a description of that object.
– Tell them where you found it.
– Ask for information you are seeking.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Some say that people living in high-rise apartments are lonely and unhappy, while others say that it’s advantageous to stay in high-rise apartments. Discuss advantages and disadvantages. Give your opinion.
