Our kind student MA recently took the IELTS test in Saudi Arabia and was asked the following questions in his Speaking test:

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– Do you work or study?
– Do you enjoy your work or studies? Why or why not?
– How do you usually spend your evenings?
– How has your evening routine changed compared to when you were a child?
– Do you always spend your evenings in the same way? Why or why not?
– Do you prefer spending your evenings alone or with others?
– What is your ideal way to unwind after a long day?
– How important is it for people to have a relaxing evening routine?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe something you lost. You should say:

– what the item was
– when and where you lost it
– what you did to try and find it

and explain how you felt about losing it.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– What are some common things that people often lose?
– Why do people tend to lose their belongings?
– What can people do to avoid losing important items?
– Why do some people forget things more easily than others?
– How do people usually try to find their lost belongings?
– Do you think technology has helped people keep track of their belongings? How?

IELTS Writing Test – General Training

Writing task 1 (a letter)

Your child’s school is organising a week-long overseas trip, and the principal is looking for parents to join as volunteers. Write a letter to express your interest. In your letter:

– Explain why you would like to join the trip.
– Ask some general questions about the trip.
– Describe how you can contribute to the trip as a parent.

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people believe that the most important skill for nurses is strong medical knowledge, while others think that other qualities are more essential.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
