IELTS Writing Test – General Training

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You want to apply for financial support from an organisation that helps students pay for their studies. Write a letter to the organisation. In your letter:

– Describe your qualifications and work experience
– Give details about the part-time course you plan to take
– Explain how this course will help you in the future.

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Many cities have old public buildings such as town halls and art galleries that are expensive to maintain. Some people think the government should replace them with modern buildings. Others believe it is important to preserve old buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
