IELTS test in the UK – July 2011 (Academic Module)

The questions below were shared by M and C, whose IELTS exam took place in the UK.

Listening test

Section 1. A discussion about space rental for an exhibition.

Section 2. Presentation of a questionnaire and information regarding it.

Section 3. Information about a volunteering program to help wild animals.

Section 4. Research questionnaire regarding hospitals and how they can be improved.

Reading test

Passage 1. About the history of the Olympic Games and Olympic torch tradition.
Questions: What type of torch was used in the previous Olympic Games? What is the difference? There was also a number of ‘filling in blanks’ questions.

Passage 2. About deep sea micro world including minerals and bacteria. How mining affects their existence. Pros and cons of mining in these areas and what is the researchers’ opinion regarding the matter.

Passage 3. A linguistic research – trying to find better ways for teaching reading, using psychological aspects of the human mind.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given a graph with 3 children’s age groups: 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 years old. And 4 columns with percentages of time spent: taking a bath, reading, eating and watching TV. The task was to compare how much time children of different age spend before bed time.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

In the past lecturers could teach a certain number of students in one lecture hall. With the development of new technology it’s hard to justify the reason to participate the lecture physically and not via the internet. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? What is your personal opinion?

Describe a child that you know. Please say

– What does he/she look like?
– What are your feelings for him/her?
