IELTS test in Saudi Arabia – February 2011 (General Training)

A recent IELTS exam was shared by H from Saudi Arabia, here is what she remembered:

Listening test

Section 1. A person was making an inquiry over the phone about health facilities available in their area.

Questions: multiple choice.

Section 2. A story about the progress in robotic technology.
Questions: filling in blanks.

Section 3. Description of the factory and 7 rooms it consists of: security, manager office, storing room, cafeteria, unloading room, etc.

Questions: map labeling.

Section 4. A students’ discussion about courses available at the college.
Questions: Filling in the blanks.

Note: this Listening test sounds very similar to the one in Romania and Iran.

Reading test

Passage 1. London touring options, including an open top bus tour.

Passage 2. Bicycle hire for the week including a trip itinerary.
Questions: multiple choice.

Passage 3. General information about a recycling process. Advertisements of recycling companies picking up different types of waste, such as kitchen appliances, garden waste and so on. There were phone numbers and websites to inquire about recycling, complaint department’s numbers and the person to contact.

Section 4. Don’t remember.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)

Write a letter to the owner of a cafe who has put some tables and chairs on the pavement, which are causing inconvenience to people walking by. In your letter include the following:

– What are the problems this is causing?
– Suggest some solutions.
– What action will you take if required?

Writing task 2 (an essay)

In your opinion is television better then radio? Discuss and offer some relevant examples from your own experience.
