Our kind friend A who recently took the IELTS test in Australia shared the following questions:

Section 1. A young woman was on the phone to an agency, trying to find work as a nanny. They talked about her tasks, the family and conditions: salary, holidays, insurance and so on.

Section 2. A guide was talking to people on the bus tour before they get off. She was explaining about different shops, markets, their location (street names and corners), opening times and what they sell.

Section 3. Don’t remember.

Section 4. A student was presenting his research about windmills and their effect on the environment, in particular on birds.

Reading test

Passage 1. About forests and the wood industry in New Zealand. Comparison of native wood versus plantations. About the use of timber in the construction industry, wood export and competition from other countries.

Passage 2. About the difficulty of reconstructing faces in three dimensions from mummies and other old head fragments and different techniques that have been used.

Passage 3. On how to keep our brain and memory working when we become older. What seems to work, suggestions of some scientists what methods are actually working and what methods aren’t working.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given two maps of the village park, ten years ago and now with some changes. Certain areas were twice or 2.5 times bigger, some were modified and improved. New facilities were added: toilets and a cafe, a bike path, a small pond became a boating area with more parking, less woods and so on.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Nowadays people tend to change a few careers during their life. What are the reasons for this, in your opinion? Do you think it is good for the society as a whole?
