IELTS Essay, topic: Computers instead of teachers

As computers are being used more and more in education, there will be soon no role for teachers in the classroom. Do you agree or disagree?

There is no doubt that education and the process of learning has changed since the introduction of computers. The search for information has become easier and more entertaining, and connectivity has expedited the availability of data. Though systems have made computers more intelligent, they have not yet become a substitute for the human interaction in the learning process. In my opinion, what can be expected is a change in the teachers’ role, but not their disappearance from the classroom.

Nobody can argue with the fact that the acquisition of knowledge is more fun and easier with computers. The mere activity of touching and exploring this device constitutes an enjoyable task for a child. This, accompanied by a relaxing attitude and interactivity of software, usually contributes to a better grasping of new knowledge. At a higher educational level the availability of digital books, simulators and other academic materials provides the student with an ever accessible source of information, that otherwise would not be at hand.

But, besides the increasing complexity and behavior of intelligent software, which is usually embedded in the academic digital material, the need for human interaction in the learning process will always be present, at least in the foreseeable future. There is the necessity for a human being to be able to determine what the needs of each individual are. The expertise of a teacher in how to explain and adapt complex concepts to different individuals can hardly be mimicked by a computer, no matter how sophisticated its software is.

As computers are becoming a common tool for teaching, teachers should be more aware of their role as guides in the acquisition of knowledge rather than transmitters of facts. They have to be receptive to the changes that are taking , keep updated and serve as problem solvers in the learning process, thus allowing students to discover the for themselves.

To summarize, in my personal view, teachers play and will continue to play an important role in the classroom, especially at the primary school level. No matter how capable computers become, there will be no replacement for human interaction, but in the interaction takes place.

This is an excellent essay! Are you a native English speaker? Well done. The only problem is that this essay is too long, 365 words instead of 250-265 maximum.

  1. You won’t get penalized if your essay is too long – but you would have saved time if you made it shorter. That time could be used to re-check your work.

  2. how can i make the essay long because the essay which i have written are not t long but they are to short how to make a goood essy

  3. You need to make a plan before writing an essay and know what you will write in every paragraph. Also every paragraph should be written using the same pattern: make a statement, explain it, provide examples. Then your essay will be sufficiently long.

  5. hi, How would i enrich my academic vocabulary? i’m in middle age, but i find it’s difficult to speak out the word that i knew already, i just forget it and take time to remind myself. i l used to be pretty good at speaking, only took sometime off to raise my baby. now i study every night but couldn’t recover it. please help

  6. Hi there, when you know the word but it just doesn’t come up when you speak, it means you need to practice. Speak to yourself if you have to, or speak to your baby, but speak and try to use the ‘smart’ words and phrases. You can also write answers to exam questions on paper, and then practice in reading them out loud.

  7. How to make good sentences?the problem is that the information can be delivered in a easier way but ho to make it more classy and impact full

  8. Hi Imtiaz, you can start getting better scores in Reading by increasing your reading speed and also by changing the way you approach reading passages in IELTS. Training yourself to become a faster reader will save you some time reading that you can spend answering questions. Also, you can change what and how you read – not all the question types require reading the entire text top to bottom. Many question types require scanning the text for information and then reading in detail when you find the right paragraph that has the answer to your question. This way you are going over large amounts of text quickly just looking for keywords, and then you spend time reading closely – just where you really have to.

  9. Hi Gourav, there is no direct penalty for using the same words from essay question. If you copy the entire task prompt it may not count towards your essay length, and if you write less than 250 words in total (not including the topic your copied), there is a penalty for that. As for using the same words, not always it’s possible to rephrase or substitute a word with a synonym, if you show your knowledge by using some synonyms you can still use the same words from essay question without fear of penalties.

  10. Learning at school level is a crucial part of a person’s life. Over the periods, new methods and tools have been introduced, the computer is the latest one and most effective. Consequently, people believe that computers gonna eliminate teachers, yet, I think it is impossible because they cannot act like humans.

Computers need commands to operate. There may be tones of material beyond tutors knowledge but still, it could deliver only a fixed scripts. However, there may be some good examles such as video clips as well as diagrams, somehow, a verbal conversation is always has a upper hand in case of explainations. Therefore, peers will find it difficult to understand the concepts clearly.

However, monitoring along with control in the classroom could not be carried as used to be. Computers cannot observe the miss behave and other ethics beacause these things can be felt only. In that way, an important part of education could be left behind. Furthermore, a teacher can evaluate better as they can analyize before examination. So, there is greater possibility of corrections earlier rather than regretting after.

Computers may store wide range of information hence, they could not replace humans as a teacher due to their limited functions.

  19. Hi Helen, if you are trying to read the entire text in order to answer questions and you run out of time doing that, then you need to do things differently. You don’t need to read the entire text. Most questions require scanning the text for keywords, you need to find the right place in the text where the answer is likely to be and then read in detail only a sentence or two there. My book ‘Target Band 7’ can help you learn the Reading techniques that will save you a lot of time, and help you give accurate answers quickly.

  20. It is undeniable that computers are fast gaining ground and encroaching upon every sphere of human life owing to the sophisticated technologies. The schools are not exempted from it, thus pose a threat to teachers to go jobless. Although accepting the immense benefits of computers, I disagree with this perspective and this write up substantiates it in detail.

The need for a teacher in the classroom is irrefutable because they play a crucial role to forge austere personalities. For example, moral values taught in the classroom cannot be performed by a computer. Furthermore, the syllabus that the students follow are well known to tutors from their long years of experience, that can provide students with ease of learning. In addition, not all students may have the same skill to comprehend the lessons taken by robot teachers. They require individual attention and guidance, which the technologies may fail to accomplish. A real teacher, however, manages it effortlessly. In regards to the online books, it is baffling at times due to the proliferation of websites. The students may not easily find the right and reliable lessons they search for, but a teacher who is a professional would bring them the right choice.

Conversely, enhanced technologies are imperative in the educational system to keep up with the pace of globalization. Smart class, for instance, provides the students an entirely new and vibrant experience to obtain knowledge. When such changes are initiated, the schools can produce ultimate results as well as donate the world efficient personnel. Computers coupled with internet facilitate easy access to various digital books that help the pupils tremendously.

To conclude, technology and computers are inevitable in the present world and it should be necessarily used in schools as well. Nevertheless, in my view, these applied science devices can never replace human educators.
