IELTS test in Melbourne, Australia – December 2009 (General Training)

IELTS test in Melbourne, Australia was shared by S. (thanks a million!) who remembered quite a bit. Unfortunately S. didn’t remember anything about the Speaking test, but did a very god job describing the other sections:

Listening test

Section 1: A conversation between a drama teacher and a parent regarding the drama lesson of his daughter.
Questions: Multiple choice and information matching.

Section 2: A tourist island and its facilities.
Questions: Multiple choice, match the correct letters to the questions and sentence completion.

Section 3: A conversation between 2 lecturers and 2 students regarding 2 books.
Questions: Table completion (no more than 3 words).

Section 4: About a conference.
Questions: Sentence completion.

Reading test

Passage 1: About an off-road bicycle trail.
Questions: True / False / Not Given and multiple choice questions.

Passage 2: Motorcycle driving exams.
Questions: short answer (use no more than 3 words).

Passage 3: Food Safety.
Questions: short answer (use no more than 3 words).

Passage 4: History of Kauri Gum Trees in New Zealand.
Questions: Matching of statements to relevant section in the
text, short answer question (use no more than 3 words), multiple choice question.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)
You are planning to go on a holiday in an English-speaking country where one of your friends reside. Please write him a letter and let him know about the upcoming trip. In your letter:
– Ask for recommendations for places to visit during your trip.
– Ask about accommodations.
– Advise on an program that you and your friend can do together once you will meet him.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
It is common in several cultures that people change their hair color, use cosmetics, use jewelery and have cosmetic surgeries performed. In your opinion, why people do so? Do you think that it is good to make such changes? Give reasons or use our own examples to support your answer.

IELTS in the UK – November 2009 (General Training)

IELTS exam in the UK was described by R. (thank you!) who remembered the following:

Listening test

R. could only remember one long recording about how the football (soccer) evolved in Europe and how parents were reacting, historic events related to it, etc.

Reading test

Passage 1: A long text on herbs.
Passage 2: About historic buildings in Australia.
Passage 3: Airport security and allowed items in Australia.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)
Write a letter to your professor about your recent internship and future plans after graduation. In your letter
– Thank him,
– Tell about your duties at internship,
– Share your plans for after graduation.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
The average life expectancy has increased because of medical inventions and medicines. Does this help the elderly or the old age becomes a burden to themselves and others?

Speaking test

Interview
I was asked questions about my apartment:
– Where is your apartment located?
– What facilities does that location offer?
– Would you recommend that location to a friend?

Cue card

Talk about your favorite book that you received as a gift, you should say:
– what is it,
– who gave it to you,
– why this is your favorite book.

Discussion
In this part I was asked questions about the Internet, how it is useful, who uses it the most, etc.
