IELTS test in Russia – February 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, was shared by our friend M. (thank you!), who remembered the following details:

Listening test

Section 1. A phone call from a customer to some hotel.

Questions: Filling in the gaps (arrival date, price per night, room with a river view, leisure activities during the stay – boating, name of center the customer wanted to visit).

Section 2. A hotel employee was instructing young newcomers on hotel’s arrangements, rules and requirements.

Questions: Filling in the gaps. It was necessary to fill in the positions of hotel managers (area manager and deputy manager), locations of fire extinguishers, names of the rooms (conference room), uniform (shirt), areas allowed for smoking (outside) and more.

Section 3. A conversation between a tutor and 2 students describing 2 different universities based on information given in the leaflets.

Questions: Multiple choice, we had to choose between 3 options:
A. University A,
B. University B,
C. Both Universities.

Reading test

Passage 1. Different points of view on importance of history (theories of different psychologists).

Passage 2. A text about “Little Ice Age”.

Passage 3. A text about brain enhancers.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)
Compare two plans of a community center: present condition and future condition after suggested modifications.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
Some people think that the only way to make a good career is to enter a college/university after school. Others prefer getting a job straight after school graduation. Discuss.
