IELTS Speaking test in Germany – July 2010

Another version of IELTS Speaking test in Germany were shared by our kind friend O, who remembered the following questions:

Speaking test

Interview

– Tell me your name.
– Where do you live?
– Do you work or study?
– Is your job common in your country?
– What is your favorite color?
– Why is that your favorite color?
– Do your often wear clothes in your favorite color?
– Which color do you think has a special meaning to people in your country ?
– Would you paint the walls in your home in a color you like, and what would that look like?

Cue Card

Describe a piece of equipment in your household (not a computer) which you find useful. Please say
– What it is,
– Where and when you bought it,
– Why you find it useful.

Discussion

– What benefit do people get from using modern equipment in the household?
– Do you think modern equipment is difficult to operate for older people?
– Do you think that employers should train their employees to use modern equipment?

IELTS test in South Africa and Germany – July 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS exams in South Africa and Germany were very similar to the one in England, according to updates we’ve received from B and A (thank you!). B said:

Listening test

Section 1. A conversation between Jim and Peter over the phone. Jim asked Peter questions about a room for rent – about the rent, parking, phone & TV facility.

Section 2. Conversation between Lena and her tutor: Lena is asking the tutor about her assignment marks and areas of improvement in preparing the assignment.

Section 3. An interview by a person on TV about exchange.com website. Question were about the purpose of exchange.com, how it was formed, how long the exchange.com exists, number of members and what things were exchanged the most.

Section 4. A lecture in a class by a professor about Japan and its ancient culture Jomon about 1000 B.C.

Reading test

Passage 1. Animal group called Bovids and its 5 sub-families.

Questions: information matching, features were given and we had to match them with a sub-family like Antelope, Bovine, etc.

Passage 2. Fuel-cell technology, new development of fuel-cell driven cars instead of hydrogen and oil.

Questions: matching headings to paragraphs from A to G, Yes/No/Not Given, and filling in the gaps.

Passage 3. About arts such as life-casting, sculptors, photography. Various authors’ views on these. How time changed the view of old arts.

Questions: matching statements with paragraphs from A to G, True/False/Not Given and multiple choice.

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a report)
There was a picture of 2 plans of a city. Plan A is of the year 1990 and Plan B is of the same city at present. Summarize the features seen in both the plans and compare as necessary.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Should people look after their personal health as a duty for the society, rather than for their personal benefit? Do you agree or disagree?

Talk about the way you like to relax, when you are not at work. Please say
