Q:Many people believe that reducing speed limits is the best option for road safety improvement. Do you think there are other measures that could be put in place? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
Ans:Most of the individuals seem that, best road safety may be achieved by limiting the speed of vehicles. Some other factors also have significant roles such as, quality of road and vehicle, signaling system, authentic regulation/act, consciousness of people, etc to control road accident. Here elaborates some quotable measures against the belief of mass people as mentioned in the question.
Firstly, a good quality road is the rudimental thing that the operator of any vehicle expects when driving. Secondly, they look for the signals/signs placed by the side of the road appropriately. If these two factors maintained by the authority concerned, the magnitude of road accident must be reduced that usually improves the safety of road.
In addition, the license issuing authority should deliver licenses through proper interview/examination of the candidates. In such procedures, they should be learnt about the strict rules and regulations regarding road safety including visualizing the categories of punishment that would be implemented those commit any accident and find guilty. And, if there exist huge punishment options to the accused then the operators will always be very much conscious while driving.
Furthermore, the condition of vehicle should always be fit to run on the road. To do so, the vehicle owners must keep eyes on it as well as the set of regulations if it remains unfit may involve extreme punishment.
In conclusion, a bunch of regulations or strict road safety act can play vital role to improve road safety than reducing speed limit only. As a whole, the improvement of road safety depends on the level of execution of the act by the concerned authority.
