IELTS test in Saudi Arabia – October 2013 (Academic Module)

Our kind friend M shared the following questions after taking an IELTS exam in Saudi Arabia:

Listening testIELTS test in Saudi Arabia

Section 1. A conversation between a person and a customer service representative about a race competition. The person was asking for details about the race: the distance to run, camps location, protection and more.

Section 2. An announcement on the radio about museums and art/culture shows, including information about opening times, dates, admission fees and so on.

Section 3. About the unique features of some schools and the way they were built. There also was information about school location, building materials and student culture revealed.

Section 4. A discussion between a professor and his student who wanted advice on a project. It was about Moa birds that were extinct like dinosaurs.

Reading test

Passage 1. An article described and compared people’s decisions, choices and whether they are happy making them, which classified them as maximisers and minimisers.

Passage 2. An article about coyotes.

Passage 3. Don’t remember.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given a diagram showing a school library before and after renovation. We had to compare the changes, shifts and additions that were made.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

In many cases the development of a country is accompanied by pollution and environmental damage. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Can it be simply avoided if the country takes an environmentally friendly approach?

I was delighted to learn that at least two of the winners used my books to prepare for the exam: Mohammadali Shahriari used ‘Target Band 7’, and Ratnesh Nagori used ‘Ace the IELTS’.
