IELTS test in Malaysia – April 2011 (Academic Module)

The IELTS exam in Malaysia was shared by our kind friend S. Here is what he remembered:

Listening test

Section 1. A call to customer service to report the luggage lost on a train.

Section 2. A conversation between 1st and 2nd year university students (study feedback).

Section 3. Explanation about rare bird species in New Zealand.

Section 4. Introduction of a running competition.

Reading test

Passage 1. A text about memory research.

Passage 2. About research based on amateur researchers.

Passage 3. Don’t remember.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

The task was to describe line graphs showing the number of people visiting a museum in a day, in summer and winter.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people say cheap air travel is good because it enables ordinary people to travel, others argue that it is bad for the environment. Discuss both views, and include your opinion.

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your name?
– Tell me about your hometown.
– What is your hometown famous for?
– What are your favorite sports?
– Do you want your children to play outdoor sports?
– Why do you think outdoor sports are important?

Cue Card

Talk about a law which you would like to propose in your area. Please say

– What would that law be?
– Why do you think it is important?
– How would you enforce this law?

Discussion

– Are judges necessary for law enforcement?
– What are the requirements for police officers?
– What are the requirements for becoming a good lawyer?

IELTS Speaking tests in Egypt and Turkey – April 2011

Below are two speaking tests given in Egypt and Turkey (see Listening, Reading and Writing tests here).

Speaking Test 1

Interview

– Do you like science?
– Did you enjoy science lessons at school?
– What kind of science do you read about?
– Do you believe celebrations are important and why?
– In your country which celebrations are more important, religious or national ones?
– Describe a celebration in your country.

Cue Card

Talk about a happy event in your childhood. Please say

– what happened,
– who was present at the event and
– why you remembered that event.

Discussion

– What does make people happy?
– Do you believe that people used to define happiness in a different way in the past, or that the concept of happiness hasn’t change with the passage of time?
– Do you believe that old people can be happier than young people?

Speaking Test 2

Interview

– What is your name?
– Are you working or studying?
– What is your job?
– Is your job difficult?
– Do you like traveling?
– When did you go outside of your city and where?
– Do you like your city?
– Do you like holidays?
– Do you go on a holiday alone?
– Do you like eating?
– What is your favorite food?
– What kind of fish restaurants do you prefer?
– What is your favorite restaurant in your city? Why?
