IELTS test in Malaysia – January 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS exam in Malaysia was shared by D. (thank you, our kind friend!), who remembered many details and did a great job describing the test. Here is what D. says:

“Dear Simone,

First of all, thanks for your “Target Band 7” book, it made preparation for my IELTS exam much easier.

Listening Test

Section 1 : A conversation between two people regarding an airport facilities survey.
Questions: Filling in the blanks, multiple choice.

Section 2 : An announcement regarding a Motor Show.
Questions : Filling in the blanks, multiple choice.

Section 3 : A conversation between two people regarding a University course information.
Questions : Completing a table.

Section 4 : A report regarding the Life of Bicycle Innovations.
Questions : Completing a table.

Reading Test

Passage 1 : About the life of apes.
Questions : Information matching (match which survey is done by which particular person), filling in the blanks, True/False/Not given.

Passage 2 : Studies about how climate change affects the animals population.
Questions: Information matching, filling in the blanks.

Passage 3 : A research into Human Languages.
Questions : Matching information, filling in the blanks, Yes/No/Not Given.

Writing Test

Writing task 1 (a report)
We had 2 road maps, the current one and another one showing some changes to the road construction.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
The gap between the rich and poor is getting wider, the rich people are getting richer, but the poor people are getting poorer. What is the reason for this situation and what action should be taken to fix it?

Speaking test

Interview
– What is your name?
– What shall I call you? Your ID, please.
– Are you currently working or studying?
– What training do you need for the job?
– Do you like fruit and vegetables?
– How often do you eat fruit and vegetables?
– Why you think that fruit and vegetables are important for us?
– What kind of fruit do you prefer?
– What age do you think your child can drive at?
– Does your high school or secondary school provide driving lessons?

Cue card
Talk about a journey you missed, you should say:
– When you were planning to go there,
– What had happened,
– How you felt about it.

Discussion
– Why do people like traveling?
– How do people prepare for traveling?
– What is the personality of people who like traveling?
– How traveling can affect someone?
