IELTS test in Australia and Malaysia – February 2011 (General Training)

IELTS exams in Australia and Malaysia were the same, and thanks to collective contribution of B, S and D we know quite a bit about the exam topics and questions.

Listening test

Section 1. Phone conversation between a prospective tenant and landlord about a rental property.
Questions: filling in blanks.

Section 2. History of construction and floor plan of a supermarket.
Questions: multiple choice, diagram / map labeling.

Section 3. A conversation between a student and course coordinator regarding a research seminar.

Section 4. A survey about children’s nutrition in New Zealand.

Reading test

Passage 1. About bike hire for vacations.
Questions: True/False/Not Given.

Passage 2. Information about a tour operator and highlights of provided tours in the UK.

Passage 3. Paid leave procedure in California, US.
Questions: Filling in blanks.

Passage 4. About tidal-wave force and marine turbines that convert it into electrical energy.
Questions: matching statements with paragraphs, filling in blanks.

Passage 5. Information on grievance handling.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You have purchased a new electronic item last week, but it has arrived damaged. Write a letter to the shop manager to complain about this. In your letter explain
– What was the product?
– What was the fault?
– What do you ask the manager to do?

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Some people believe that traveling is a valuable experience, others say it is a waste of time and money. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
