IELTS Speaking test in the UK – November 2010

IELTS speaking questions below were shared by our kind friend R from the UK. R also said that the other modules were identical to the ones in the tests in Nigeria and Bangladesh

Speaking test

– What ways are there of having fun in your hometown?
– What do you like the most about your hometown?
– How do you think your hometown should be improved?
– What types of weather are there in your country?
– What kind of weather do you like? Why?
– What kind of weather don’t you like? Why?

Cue Card

Talk about your favorite TV or radio presenter, please say
– who the presenter is,
– what program the presenter hosts,
– what you like about the presenter / program.

Discussion

– What are the skills that a radio/TV presenter should have?
– What are the advantages and disadvantages of this job?
– Should news presenters express their opinion?
– Some people say that news/TV/radio presenters should not joke. What do you think of that?

IELTS test in Nigeria and Bangladesh – November 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS exams in Nigeria and Bangladesh were identical, according to C and R (thanks for sharing!). Here is what we know:

Listening test

Section 1. A phone conversation between a man who was looking for a school for his son and a woman.

Section 2. A man was talking to an academic counselor about taking courses.

Section 3. Different types of plant listed under Australian plants and where they should be planted in a garden. There was a diagram to fill in the location of the plants.

Section 4. Types of sports and different types of body build that help people perform better in each sport.

Reading test

Passage 1. Behavioral pattern of chimpanzees and how their culture is learned.

Passage 2. An article on multitasking and its physical, mental and health implications.

Passage 3. A plant that is considered extinct (some acacia plant) and its origin in the legume family (usually grows as a weed). Rediscovered in 1972 by Stephen Smith.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

There were 3 pie charts comparing the annual expenditure of students in countries A, B C on 5 broad categories, namely accommodation, food, books, leisure and other.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Few languages are increasingly spoken in different countries, while the usage of others is rapidly declining. Is this a positive or a negative development?

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your full name?
– What do you do, study or work?
– Where are you from?

Cue Card

Talk about a family that you liked to spend time with (other than your own family). You should say:
– who were they?
– why did you like to spend time with them?
– how did you meet them?

Discussion

– Are you from a singe-parent or a joint family?
– Which sort of family attachment is better?
– Why do you think so?
