IELTS test in India and UAE – June 2010 (General Training)

IELTS exams in Bangalore, India and UAE were identical, according to our 2 kind friends who shared the information below:

Listening test

Section 1. A conversation between a person and an animal protection club clerk regarding membership details.
Questions: filling in the gaps, no more than one word (Q1 – Q8).

Section 2. About locations of shops in a shopping mall.
Questions: From the conversation we had to fill names of various shops on a diagram, e.g. cinema, book stall, food court (choosing words from a box, Q9 – Q15).

Section 3. Conversation between two students about a presentation in their college.
Questions: filling in the gaps (no more than three words, Q16 – Q22), filling in the gaps (no more than 2 words, Q23 – Q31).

Section 4. Portland cement manufacturing process (a monologue).
Questions: filling in the gaps (no more than one word, Q32 – Q36), 3 statements about 2 different types of cements (Portland and another), Q37 – Q40.

Reading test

Passage 1. Various ways of getting tickets to a concert at the theater.
Questions: Short answer questions (no more than four words), Q1 – Q7.

Passage 2. Don’t remember the topic.
Questions: True / False / Not given, Q8 – Q16.

Passage 3. Don’t remember.

Passage 4: Asteroids and different types of stone like objects falling from space on Earth. About four types of stones were discussed.
Questions: matching statements Q25 – Q35, filling in the gaps (no more than 2 words) Q36 – Q40.

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a letter)

Government plans to construct an airport in your locality. Write a letter to the authority, in your letter
a) explain where did you come to know from about this news,
b) describe the negative effects of the airport construction,
c) ask to consider alternative site for the construction.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Many universities are offering jobs to students one year prior to their graduation from the course. Explain the advantages and disadvantages. What is your opinion?

Speaking test

Interview

– Are you working or a student?
– Have you been offered any training for your job?
– How do you feel about the training, is it necessary?
– What is your opinion about wearing fashionable clothes?
– What type of clothes would you like to wear?
– Do you shop frequently?

Cue Card

Speak about an older person that you know, please say:
– where did you meet him / her?
– what is so special about him / her?
– how has he/she influenced your life?

Discussion

– What is your opinion about older people in your community?
– How the older people are treated by the new generation?
– How difficult is it for them to acquire a job?
– How should younger people change their approach to the older people?

Speaking test 1

Interview

– Do you like wearing a watch?
– Do you feel like time is going very fast?
– Do you feel like time is going very slowly?
– What is the climate like in your hometown?
– Do you like that kind of climate? Why?

Cue Card

Talk about a letter or a postcard that you received, please say
– who sent it to you,
– when you received it,
– what was the content,
– how it made you feel.

Discussion

– What do you prefer, an e-card or a regular letter?
– Are you receiving any letters from anyone?
– Do you like sending letters or emails better?

Speaking test 2

– Are you a student or working?
– Discuss your job profile.
– What are your favorite colours?
– What do they mean?
– Do you wear those colours?
– What are the colours people in your country wear the most?

Cue Card

Talk about your friend whom you helped a lot, please say
– How did you help him / her ?
– Why did you decide to help that person?
– How did you feel after you helped?

Discussion

– In the future what kind of job you would like to do?
– Tell me about the values which old people need.
– How are they different from the values that young people need?
– Do you think that people in carer jobs should be paid more? Why?
