IELTS test in Canada – March 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS test in Vancouver, Canada was shared by our kind friend A. She also said it was surprising that the Speaking questions were the same as the ones published earlier here in IELTS-Blog, well – I’m not surprised at all, because we’ve seen how often that happens 🙂 Here is what A remembered:

Listening test

Section 1. Phone conversation about telephone tariffs between a customer and someone from the company.
Questions: filling in the gaps, the questions were about the monthly fees, about the contract, etc.

Section 2. A conversation between a student and a teacher from the food and science department at the university.
Questions: filling in the gaps, the questions were about homework, assignments and the seminar.

Section 3. About recycling.
Questions: filling in the gaps, the questions were about the recycling dates, what sort of rubbish goes in the green can, yellow can or red can.

Section 4. Chimpanzees, their behavior and cultural differences.

Reading test

Passage 1. A book that was found in early 1900’s and how scientists and professors tried to read it.
Questions: headings matching, sentences completion.

Passage 2. Road transport in the European Union.
Questions: T / F / NG.

Passage 3. Don’t remember.

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a report)
There were 2 maps of the same site in 1976 and 2000. We had to write a report comparing the two maps and pointing out differences.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)
Nowadays, we can do daily tasks such as shopping, banking and business transactions without meeting face to face. What are the possible effects of this development on individual and society?

Interview
– What is your name?
– Where are you from?
– Where do you live?
– Would you suggest people to live there?
– Tell me about your home.
– Where is it located?
– Are you close to your neighbors?
– How often do you see them?
– What’s the reason that neighbors often get in trouble?

IELTS test in Perth, Australia was described by S., who remembered the topics in the Writing and Speaking sub-tests:

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a report)

The first chart showed the percentage of girls and boys in secondary education of four regions (Europe, America, Africa, and East Asia) in the world in 2000. The second chart showed percentage of men and women in higher education (college, university) of four regions in the same year.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Nowadays, more jobs and work are done by machines. What are the effects of this on individual and society? Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? Discuss.

Speaking test

Interview

– Introduce yourself.
– Do you work or study?
– Do you wear a watch?
– How do you feel if you are late for something?
– Do you think time passes too slowly nowadays?
– What do you want to be in the future?

Cue card

Talk about your favorite subject at school, you should say:
– What is it?

Discussion
