IELTS Speaking questions from Australia and Korea – February 2010

IELTS exams in Australia and Korea were identical to the Malaysian exam. Speaking questions in 3 versions were made available by our caring friends – thank you, E., A. and F. Here is what they remembered:

Speaking test #1 (Korea)

Interview
– Are you a student or a worker?
– What is your major?
– Why did you choose your major?
– Can you drive?
– What do you think, should high schools have a diving course? Is it necessary?
– What do you think about the age suitable for driving?

Cue Card
Talk about an article you read in a newspaper or a magazine, you should say:
– what article did you like?
– why did you like it?
– do you remember the article?
– what was it about?

Discussion
– Do you like reading?
– Did you read many books in your childhood?
– Do you like to read news and articles on the Internet?
– What do you think about the articles on the Internet?
– Do you think newspapers will disappear because of the Internet? Why?

Speaking test #2 (Australia)

Interview
– What is your name?
– Are you working or studying?
– How many times did you go out with your friends?
– Do you prefer that your friends visit you in your house or that you go out with them?

Cue card
Talk about the popular sports that you know, you should say:
– why it is popular,
– what a person needs to play this sport,
– why you like it.

Speaking test #3 (Australia)

Interview
– Introduce yourself.
– What do you do nowadays, work or study?
– Do you think your field of work changes your personality?
– Is there any positive effects of your work on your personal life?
– Why did you choose this job?
– What healthy activity do you recommend people to do? Why?
– Do you think healthy activities are being discussed in the schools enough?
– What does the government do to improve people’s ‘health strategy’ in their life?
– How many languages do you speak?
– Do you think English language is an easy language?
– How can you improve your English?

IELTS test in Malaysia – February 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS test in Malaysia was shared by our friend R., and thanks to his great memory we know all of the following details:

Listening test

Section 1. A woman was talking to a guy, doing a survey, she asked for:
– address,
– occupation,
– some questions about the city he lives in.

Section 2. 2 students were discussing their project. Very similar to the ‘Official IELTS Practice Material 2009, Listening Section 3’.

Section 3. A lecturer was talking about how she set up an Online Writing website to help her students.

Section 4. A woman was talking about a company that she belongs to.

Questions. Filling in the gaps job titles (e.g. engineer, scientists, accountants), what kind of benefits the employee gets. Similar to ‘Official IELTS Practice Material 2009, Listening Section 1’.

Reading test

Passage 1. An article about the Olympic Games throughout the years. Technical stuff about the design or the Olympic Torch.
Questions. Completing the diagram of the torch.

Passage 2. An article about violins. Traditionally how they were made, the science of it and the preference of musicians.

Passage 3. An article about a study on compliance and non-compliance in children.
Questions. Complete the sentences by matching.

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a report)
A table on the population of the UK sorted by age groups in the years 1995 and 2005. It also showed the predicted population in 2015.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)
Technology progression has a negative impact on us. To what extent to you agree or disagree with this statement?

Speaking test

Interview

– What do you do? Work or study?
– Where’s your hometown?
– How is it there?
– Talk about your hometown.
– Where would you recommend a tourist to go to in your hometown?
– Do you know your neighbors?
– Is it important to know your neighbors?
– Tell me all in all about your neighbors.

Cue card

– Talk about a TV show that you watched recently that you didn’t like, you should say:
– When was it?
– What happened in the show?
– Why didn’t you like it?

Discussion

– Do you think celebrities’ salaries are too high?
– Do you think children are influenced by celebrities?
– Do they set a good example?
