IELTS test in Vietnam – March 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS test in Vietnam was shared by our kind friend H., and here are all the details he remembered:

Listening test

Section 1. A customer called an advertising company to ask about an advertisement that she has seen (some items were mentioned such as bed, fridge, and location).
Questions: filling in the gaps.

Section 2. A talk of a guide about the history of a place.
Questions: multiple choice and locate some specific positions on a given map.

Section 3. A conversation between a student and his tutor about a project.
Questions: About sources of information that the student was looking for (A: from the previous materials, B: attend a class, or C: library sources), filling in the gaps, multiple choice.

Section 4. An Indian company that was established and now is managed by a woman.
Questions: filling in the gaps and multiple choice.

Reading test

Passage 1. About bamboo.
Questions: information matching – which paragraph contains the following information, match statements to names of speakers, T/F/NG.

Passage 2. Children’s literature.
Questions: sentence completion, T/F/NG.

Passage 3. The uses of talc in 3 areas: chewing gum manufacturing, olive oil extraction and planting crops.
Questions: which area uses talc for the following purposes, summary completion, short answer (2 questions) .

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (a report)
2 pie charts about the types of websites male and female students visit (shopping, news, sports, academic, other).

Writing Task 2 (an essay)
People are living longer. However, this has some implications on the aging individual and the society. What are possible effects on the individual and the society?

Speaking test

Interview
– Where do you come from?
– Which part of country is your hometown located in?
– Is it a good place to live?
– What kind of noise do you dislike most?
– What kind of sound do you like most?
– Do you like cooking? Why or why not?
– Who cooks in your family?
– In the future, will you cook more or less?

Cue card
Describe a well-known artist that you admire, please say:
– Who is he/she?
– What field does he/she work in?
– How did you first know about him/her?
– What did he/she do?
– Explain the reason why you admire him/her.

Discussion
– Are children taught arts in school in your country?
– What kind of arts is the most popular in your country?
– Should arts be taught at university? Why/why not?
– What are effects of technology on arts?
– Will technology affect arts more or less in the future? How?

IELTS test in Canada – March 2010 (General Training)

IELTS test in Canada was described by N. (thank you!), and here is what he remembered about the Writing and the Speaking modules:

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)
You have heard that your company is organizing a language training abroad for a limited number of participants. Write a letter of interest, in your letter
– state your position in the company,
– explain why they should include you in the list,
– explain how the training could benefit your work and/or the company.

Writing task 2 (an essay)
People nowadays are not as fit and healthy as people were in the past. What is the long term effect on health? What may be the reasons? What can be done about it?

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your name?
– Can I see your identification?
– Do you work or study?
– What is your work like?

– Do you like it?
– Where do you live?
– Describe your neighborhood.
– Describe your relationship with your neighbors.
– What is the importance of having a good relationship with your neighbor?

Cue card

Tell me about an old person that you have met that you still remember, please say:
– who this person is,
– what your relationship with this person is,
– describe the person,
– how you feel about this person.

Discussion

– What is the role of older persons in our society nowadays?
– Do you think that they are still worthy to be in the work force and what’s the benefit of hiring them to the company?
– Who do you think should take care of them?
– What is the effect of having a greater population of older people in a nation in terms of economy?
