IELTS exam in Melbourne, Australia – March 2009 (General Training)

A friend from Melbourne, Australia sent me an email about the topics in his General training exam. Here is what he remembered:

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (letter)
You found out about a community that offers some activities for elderly people and would like to volunteer. Write to them and explain:
– How did you find out about them
– Why you think that their job is important
– How do you want to help them

Writing Task 2 (essay)
Cost of flights is going down. Explain the positive and the negative points of this situation.

Speaking test

Interview
– What is your full name?
– How are you doing?
– Where do you come from?
– Are you working or studying?
– Why did you choose this profession?
– Do you prefer to study alone or in a group?
– What you usually do with your friends?

Cue Card
Describe a historical place you went to, you should say:
– Where it is
– Where did you hear about it
– What do you know about it.

Discussion
– It is important to know about the history of your country? Why?
– What historical movie makers do their best jobs in movie production?

IELTS exam in Belgium – March 2009 (General Training)

I’ve received the topics that recently appeared in General training IELTS in Belgium (thanks, L!), here they are:

Listening test

One of the sections was about posting an advertisement in a newspaper:
– guy was talking to a lady
– the ad was about selling a table

Reading test
The topics were about ants in Australia, how a new colony of ants is created, life cycle of ants.

Writing test

Writing Task 1 (letter)
Inform bank manager in a letter about the fact that you cannot go to an agreed meeting. You should cover the following:
– inform and apologize
– describe the reason for your absense
– propose new time

Task 2 (essay)
Do you agree with the statement that advertisements of toys and fast food are harmful to kids.

Speaking test

The questions that I remember were about myself, whether I party or not and
about urban planning.
