IELTS exam in Nigeria – November 2008 (Academic Module)

CA from Nigeria was very kind and told me what he remembers about the Academic IELTS there:

Writing Test

Task 1 (Report)
It was a bar chart, unfortunately I don’t remember much about it.

Task 2 (Essay)
Many countries of the world are made up of different cultures and ethnic groups, why is this so? Does it have a negative or a positive effect on development of the country?

Speaking test

Interview
– Questions about my home town
– What has changed over the past 20 years?
– What does your name mean?
– Why did your parents give you that name?
– Are there names that are common in your country?

Card
Described an animal you have seen. You should say:
– Where you saw it
– when you saw it
– What was important about it

Discussion
Why do people chose to be vegetarians?
What health problems associated with keeping animals?
Are there many vegetarians in Nigeria?

The examiner was very nice and lively, I enjoyed every moment of my speaking.

IELTS exam in Australia, NSW – November 2008 (Academic Module)

Thanks to S from New South Wales, Australia, we know this much about the recent Academic exam:

Reading test was bit difficult but managed to do all the questions, and for the Listening test the last three answer was little bit guessing on the ‘right key word’.

Writing test

Task 1 (Report)
All I remember is that I was given a table.

Task 2 (Essay)
These days many people do business or study at home due to computer technology, discuss the positive and negative sides of it.

First I thought it was a ‘situation’ type of essay, but then I have decided to write one negative and two positive paragraphs on it. So it went pretty much like an argument. I am not sure whether that was a wise direction.

Speaking test
I was given a lot more questions that what I expected but all went pretty much OK. They asked me to talk about ‘writing a letter’.

Anyway, your book Target Band 7 was a great help, hope I can prove that with and good mark!
